A group of international students at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, got the chance to experience some traditional Chinese culture by creating their own bamboo-engraving artworks on March 16.
Bamboo engraving is a folk art form which was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
The university invited Qiao Yu, an intangible cultural inheritor of bamboo-engraving, to give a course on its craftsmanship for the international students.
The students showed great interest and attempted to create their own artwork after several false starts. A student from South Korea said he could feel inner peace during the creation process.
An official said that the university will continue to promote traditional Chinese culture among its international students with more cultural experience courses including embroidery, guqin and paper cutting, planned in the future.
