Confucius Institutes and Classrooms are non-profit educational organizations set up in foreign countries, with the aim to improve people's understanding of China, launch Chinese language teaching courses and facilitate international cooperation and exchange in the fields of education and culture.

Jiangsu province first launched overseas Chinese language promotion programs in 2006. By November 2015, Jiangsu has established 29 Confucius Institutes and 53 Confucius Classrooms in 13 countries including the United States, Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Chile and Austria in cooperation with universities and governments in those countries.
