Moon Cake DIY celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival

(nju.edu.cn) Updated:2015-12-01

The Xianlin campus of Nanjing University (NJU) launched a moon cake DIY activity on Sept 26.

More than 110 students from HK, Taiwan and Macau took part in the activity, which was organized by the Office of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs and the the Association of International Communication (AIC) to enhance cultural exchange between this year’s exchange students and NJU students.

Divided into several groups, students cheerfully made mooncakes under the guidance of volunteers from the AIC.

Traditional activities such as guessing lantern riddles will also be held to help exchange students expand their knowledge of Chinese traditional culture.

The Mid-Autumn festival, in ancient China, was a time to enjoy the successful reaping of rice and wheat and to make food offerings in honor of the moon. Today, it is still an occasion for outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat mooncakes and watch the moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.
