During the critical period for summer planting, the planting base at the Changyinsha Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park in Zhangjiagang is bustling with activity but in an orderly manner.
Four rice transplanters are shuttling back and forth at a steady pace in the leveled paddy fields. Wherever the machines pass, tender green seedlings are neatly planted in the soil with uniform spacing between plants and rows.
Zhangjiagang has 261,500 mu (17,433.33 hectares) of rice fields, and large-scale rice planting operations across the city are expected to be fully underway by mid-June.
