To help position Zhangjiagang as a hub for South Korean companies in the Yangtze River Delta region, the Suzhou (Zhangjiagang) China-South Korea Economic and Trade Cooperation Event was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on May 21.
During the event, the Suzhou (Zhangjiagang) Korea Business Cooperation Center was inaugurated. Located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province — the heart of South Korea's K-semiconductor belt — the center aims to serve as a bridge connecting Zhangjiagang with South Korea's industrial ecosystem while helping Korean companies establish and grow in China.
A three-year action plan (2026-28) for upgrading the China-South Korea (Zhangjiagang) Innovation Cooperation Park was also unveiled. The park in Zhangjiagang will focus on semiconductor equipment as its core industry, alongside biomanufacturing and hydrogen energy equipment, with the goal of becoming a premier hub for South Korean companies in the YRD region.
"These cooperation measures are expected to lay a fresh foundation for connecting businesses, technology, and talent, injecting renewed momentum into bilateral economic ties," said a consul in charge of financial and economic affairs at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai during the event.
The official attributed Zhangjiagang's significant role in Korea-China economic cooperation to its strategic location, strong port infrastructure, solid industrial base, and the local government's investor-friendly services.
The city has long been actively engaged in trade and economic cooperation with South Korea, maintaining friendly exchanges with cities such as Pohang. To date, it has attracted 124 South Korean companies, with total investment approaching $5 billion.
Moving forward, Zhangjiagang aims to expand cooperation with South Korea in high-end equipment, semiconductors, and biomedicine, cultivating new drivers for both high-level opening and high-quality development.
