Jiangsu provincial departments recently announced the first batch of provincial peak carbon and carbon neutrality pilot lists, and the Xinghua Economic Development Zone, located in Xinghua, East China's Jiangsu province, was named a pilot one for the first time.
"The selection aims to encourage and support key cities, industrial parks, and enterprises to actively carry out peak carbon and carbon neutrality pilot development, thereby promoting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development throughout the province from point to area," said Tao Ling, director of the Taizhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission.
The industrial added value of the Xinghua EDZ increased annually from 2020 to 2023, while its carbon emission intensity per unit of industrial added value decreased 12.8 percent during the period, showing significant potential for carbon reduction.
By 2030, significant progress will be made in various pilot projects for green and low-carbon transformation, key tasks, projects, and important reforms will be completed on schedule, significant breakthroughs will be made in the application of green and low-carbon technologies, and innovative measures and advanced experience demonstration will serve as important drivers, according to the province's plan to develop peak carbon and carbon neutrality pilot areas.
