In a bid to build a health foods industry cluster valued at over 100 billion yuan ($14.70 billion), the Xinghua Economic Development Zone – located in Xinghua city in East China's Jiangsu province – is taking concerted steps to expedite the goal.
With abundant local agricultural resources, the health foods industry in the zone is moving to add value to local produce by extending its deep processing, producing brand foods and engaging in other directions.
At present, the zone processes and produces condiments, rice and noodles, seafood products, dehydrated vegetables, dairy products, meat products, cocoa products, functional foods and pre-prepared dishes.
The condiments industry is one of the characteristic sectors in the zone. So far, 473 condiments businesses have registered in Xinghua, with a total investment of over 20 billion yuan.

The strong investment environment in the Xinghua EDZ has given companies the confidence to invest and develop in the zone, said Chen Lin, director of its administrative committee.
For example, in order to ensure the Anjoy Food phase III project started construction on schedule, the zone took initiative to coordinate with various local municipal government departments to solve such problems as the relocation of power supply poles and water-related issues, Chen added.
