With the Chinese Lunar New Year almost here, the Lincheng sub-district of the Xinghua Economic Development Zone – located in Xinghua, a county-level city administered by Taizhou, in East China's Jiangsu province – held a raft of reading activities to celebrate the upcoming New Year.
On Nov 17, to bring some joy to local stay-at-home kids, the Women's Federation and the Reading Office of the sub-district held a reading activity. The origins of the Chinese New Year and great traditions about the family were recounted there.
Volunteers gave away books and stationery to the kids at the event.
Another reading activity was held in Lincheng sub-district's Minfu village rural bookstore, mainly for old Party members and young people returning home to start their own businesses. Local official Zhang Bing, said that reading about community feelings generated by the Spring Festival atmosphere was comforting and enlightening.
Village rural bookstores are known to be important platforms to help improve the ideology and culture of rural people. Plans are for the Lincheng sub-district Reading Office to get village community civilization practice stations and rural bookstores to hold more reading activities, enabling locals to feel the joys of the New Year in a book.
