Over the past three years, 14 key water conservation projects in Taixing city – administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – have been included in provincial level and above plans, involving a combined investment of 672 million yuan ($93.39 million).
The projects are said to have resulted in the treatment and amelioration of the city's seven main rivers with a total length of 56 kilometers, 118 tributaries spanning 212 km – as well as 81 village rivers totaling 66 km.
Through the treatment, Jiaotu Port in Taixing – starting from the Yangtze River in the west and extending to the Zengchan Port in the east – has taken on a fresh new look. Previously, due to long-term neglect of treatment, various functions of the river had severely degraded.
With a total investment of 90.92 million yuan, of which 36.37 million yuan has been invested at or above the provincial level, Jiaotu Port in Taixing has upgraded its standards for river drainage and shown a new face.
The Xuanbao Port Governance Project (Taixing Section) has also benefited from the treatment – after river dredging, bank slope protection and drainage outlet renovation.
The implementation of the project is widely said to have boosted the flood discharge capacity of Xuanbao Port and improved soil and water conservation along the riverbanks.
