The Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone – located in Taixing city in East China's Jiangsu province – is promoting its bio-fermentation and future food industry at full speed, in line with the national Healthy China Initiative.
The zone's plan is to develop a "Bio-fermentation and Future Food City of China". In June last year, the 'city' was officially inaugurated in the zone, with it soon moving into the construction stage.
Dofresh (Taizhou) Co Ltd became the first enterprise to invest in the initiative, with an investment of 120 million yuan ($17.78 million). A number of imported intelligent production lines have been introduced by the company, realizing the intelligent transportation of raw materials, measurements and control of processes.
The China Bio-fermentation and Future Food Industry Research Institute has become an important part of the project's development. The institute was jointly established by the Huangqiao EDZ and research institutes and universities at home and abroad.

Total investment for the institute was 136 million yuan, with experimental testing equipment estimated at 50 million yuan.
The institute is expected to integrate public testing, applied basic research, core technology transformation and industrialization demonstration functions, said Gao Minjie, deputy director of the management committee in the zone.
