The renovation project of the water ditches in Zhangba community, located in Hailing district, Taizhou, has recently made new progress.
The original five separate small water ditches in Yeyuan village, located in Zhangba community, have now been fully connected, forming a stream with a length of about 1.5 kilometers.
In the past, residents of the community were troubled by these stinky ditches with garbage floating on the surface.
To address this concern, Zhangba community spent nearly 3 million yuan ($421,247) over three years to renovate these ditches and upgrade the facilities around them.
This was achieved through the removal of illegal constructions, dredging, bank restoration, paving of walkways, and installation of streetlights and light strips.
"Before the renovation, the water in these ditches was stagnant. During heavy rains, it became dirty and foul-smelling due to its poor drainage, with rainwater mixing with sewage and garbage. It has changed so much since then, and has become a beautiful sight in our village," said Xie Guanghua, a resident of Zhangba community.
The past smelly ditches have now been transformed into a green scenic belt, providing a suitable place for residents of Zhangba community to walk and exercise.
"We plan to enhance the greening and lighting around these ditches by the end of November, creating a living environment with clear water, smooth rivers, green banks, and beautiful scenery," said Dong Pengping, director of the residents' committee of Zhangba community.
