The 3rd High-Tech Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Industry Innovation and Development Conference opened on March 28 in Taizhou. The event aimed to build a platform for deep integration among industries, universities, research institutions, and end-users, promoting mutual benefit and large-scale development.

Li Guoan, vice-chairman of the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, highlighted Taizhou's position as China's largest private shipbuilding base. He noted that the city's shipbuilding industry has expanded steadily in recent years, with its cluster effect becoming increasingly prominent. Li encouraged Taizhou to focus on key areas of the industrial chain and address its weaknesses, promoting a shift from traditional ship manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing and innovation.

Five universities, five shipbuilding organizations, and six companies signed partnership agreements during the event to strengthen cooperation between enterprises and academic institutions.

During the keynote session, four experts shared their latest research and insights on new technology applications, intelligent navigation, and marine equipment, offering valuable guidance for the sector's future development.

Taizhou is a national-level ship export hub and the world's largest production base for marine anchor chains. Its shipbuilding output, order backlog, and new orders account for half of Jiangsu's totals, one-fifth of the national figures, and one-tenth globally.

In 2024, Taizhou's shipbuilding sector surged ahead, with its leading enterprises generating a combined output value of 74.4 billion yuan ($10.22 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20.6 percent. The industry's import−export volume also soared, reaching $6.72 billion, up 92.1 percent growth over the previous year. Spearheaded by powerhouses like New Times Shipbuilding and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Taizhou has solidified its position as a rising hub for shipbuilding, with a robust industrial ecosystem now firmly taking shape.
