Taizhou listed nationally as a top livable city

Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province achieved a livability index of 0.6262, ranking it 24th nationwide, according to the 2023 China Urban Livability Index Analysis report.

The report was released at the sixth China City Construction Summit & International Academic Exchange Seminar, which was held recently in Beijing.

Adhering to the principle of "green mountains and clear waters are as good as mountains of gold and silver", Taizhou is promoting the cross-sector integration of medicine, healthcare, elderly care, food and tourism and is advancing the development of its "ecology plus health" initiative.

What's more, it aims to create an ecological economic belt along the Yangtze River and a water town with distinctive charm.

Taizhou has been recognized as a national model city for health city construction and has earned the title of China's most happiness-inducing city for four consecutive years. It is also a pilot area for the national "15-minute convenient living circle" – with well-known tourism destinations such as Qinhu Lake, Fengcheng River and rapeseed flowers fields becoming more and more popular.

In addition, Taizhou is expanding its employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. Last year, the city supported 22,000 individuals in self-employment and saw an increase of 64,000 new jobs in its urban area.

Approved as a national model city for public employment and entrepreneurship services, Taizhou has been evaluated as a qualified city for modernization trials of social governance at the city level.

In 2023, Taizhou constructed six sports parks, completed 52 kilometers of fitness trails and updated 3,700 fitness facilities. It has made seven large sports venues open to the public for free or at a low charge, encouraging more citizens to join the fitness community.

The city is also addressing housing difficulties for new residents, young people and other groups. Last year, Taizhou launched a unified housing allocation system for affordable rental housing, aiming to provide 14,000 units.
