Tourism culture festival kicks off in Taicang

The 2019 Taicang (China) Tourism Culture Festival got underway at the city's Yangtze Estuary Tourist Resort in ancient Liuhe town on March 22, Taicang Daily reported.

Themed on "Savor fresh fishes, Enjoy scenic Taicang", the festival is expected to run through the end of May, during which 23 activities, including 13 tourist activities and six gourmet activities, will be organized to entertain visitors.

Festival goers can tour the picturesque countryside, admire fascinating flowers, play parent-children games, taste authentic local delicacies and catch fresh fish during the two-month event.

The local folk song To Find Fresh Fish in Taicang made its debut at the launch ceremony, which sings the city's delicacies and beautiful scenery.

The annual festival, which started in 2003, has now developed into the most important platform showcasing Taicang's tourism and business industries' achievements from the previous year, attracting numerous tourists from home and abroad to the city.

Taicang is an ancient and modern city. It has a history of more than 2,000 years and was the departure place of renowned voyager Zheng He in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The city also boasts advanced port logistics capable of delivering more than 5 million containers in a year and is a hub for German companies in China.

In addition, Taicang's untouched nature and pleasant climate make it an ideal place for urban residents get away from a bustling metropolis and live a slower life.
