Taicang Museum holds antique painting and calligraphy exhibition
An exhibition of works by the late painter Li Fangying opened at Taicang Museum in Taicang, Jiangsu province from Sept 25. The exhibition will run until Oct 25.
Over 30 classical paintings and calligraphy works are on display at the museum, as well as related historical materials.
Li Fangying (1695-1755) was one of the Eight Eccentric Painters of Yangzhou. The Eight Eccentric Painters of Yangzhou refer to the painters in the region of Yangzhou during the reigns of Kangxi and Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Li Fangying was an accomplished painter of natural scenes depicting pines, bamboos, plum blossoms and orchids. In his later years, he concentrated on painting plum blossoms.
The artifacts on exhibition are part of a collection from Nantong Museum, in Nantong, Jiangsu province.
Before going on display in Taicang, the show was staged in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, and Xuzhou and Huai'an in Jiangsu province.
