Shen Qiyuan (1685-1763), also written as Qiyuan (this is a subtle difference in Chinese written characters), courtesy name is Zida, and he styles himself as Jingting, Taicang origin, son of Shen Shouhong.

In the 60th year of Emperor Kangxi (1721) he was the third degree candidate in the former national civil service examination, and was promoted as an officer who was in charge of sacrifice and banquet in the palace.

He was not affected by gains or losses. He does not care about power, and refuses any offer or gifts. He follows Tang style poetry, and Ouyang Xiu, Zeng Gong in literary works, Yan Zhenqing in calligraphy. His calligraphy was bold and vigorous even in his later years of life.
