Binhu district of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been promoting scientific and technological innovation to boost high-quality development.
Known as a hub for scientific and educational resources, Binhu district is home to nearly 90 percent of scientific and educational institutions in Wuxi, including 12 provincial and ministerial research institutes.
It has implemented over 1,000 collaboration projects between universities, research institutes, and local enterprises, resulting in a total transaction value of nearly 100 million yuan ($14 million). Additionally, over a hundred incubator companies have been nurtured in the district.
This year, senior officials from the district authorities have made efforts to expand the network of universities and research institutions, including visits to the University of Hong Kong, Xiamen University, University of Sydney, and Tsinghua University's Institute of Nuclear Energy and New Energy Technology, in order to promote cooperation and create major innovation platforms to attract more innovative resources to the district.
The life and health industry, ranking first among the five most advantageous industries in Binhu, has already reached a scale of tens of billions of yuan. With leading companies like Wuxi AppTec and WuXi Biologics, the district has unique advantages in the industrial chain and is focusing on medical devices, synthetic biology, and specialty medical foods to develop a collaborative life and health industrial cluster.
Statistics show that this year, 96 new life and health enterprises have opened in the district, bringing the total number to 318. The estimated scale of the life and health industry is expected to reach 19.5 billion yuan, a 20.7 percent year-on-year growth, with estimated tax revenue of 1.6 billion yuan.
Binhu is also a leader in integrated circuit development and innovative applications in the city. In recent years, various high-quality integrated circuit enterprises, including those involved in design, packaging, testing, supporting services, and application, have been nurtured, continuously expanding into high-performance categories such as CPUs and GPUs.
Furthermore, the district is actively extending into the integrated circuit equipment industry and promoting the development of industrial projects while ensuring policy support.
In October, Tsinghua University's Institute of Nuclear Energy and New Energy Technology's advanced process semiconductor nanoscale photolithography industrialization project landed in Binhu. A public research and development testing platform was also unveiled.
