In a promising sign for an economic rebound, Wuxi's Binhu district reported stable growth during the first half of the year.
The region's gross domestic product reached 55.29 billion yuan ($7.67 billion), showing a substantial year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent. This growth was further reflected in the output of industrial companies above a designated size, which saw a remarkable rise of 7.3 percent, reaching 43.95 billion yuan.
Consumer spending also saw a robust surge, with the total retail sales of social consumer goods reaching 15.69 billion yuan, a notable year-on-year increase of 11.3 percent. Moreover, the district's exports recorded 8.9 billion yuan, an increase of 4.8 percent.
Binhu district also received encouraging foreign direct investment, with actual utilization of foreign capital amounting to $277 million, accounting for 76.9 percent of the annual target.
During the first six months of 2023, key industries such as software and information technology and intelligent connected vehicles experienced double-digit growth.
In addition to the region's economic achievements, the well-being of residents also improved, with the per capita disposable income reaching 39,369 yuan, reflecting a steady growth of 5 percent.
