The Liyuan Economic and Technological Development Zone in Binhu district, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province held an intellectual property rights (IPR) forum focusing on geographical indication (GI) on Aug 19.

More than 100 industry experts, corporate representatives, and market regulation officials discussed issues including the protection of trademarks from infringement and the future development of GI products during the forum.

A blue book on Wuxi's geographical indication industry, which compiles relevant policies, IPR protection cases, research results of several GI products native to Wuxi, and other information, was also released. It is expected to provide guidance to organizations who want to apply for a GI.

Tentative agreements for two cooperation projects – one involving offering loans to Wuxi Hao tea growers with intellectual property as a security and the other involving designing new packaging for GI products in Mashan sub-district – were signed.

A live-streaming session to promote Wuxi's GI products was held after the forum.
