A livestream to promote sales of agricultural products from Hudai town, Binhu district, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province was recently set up at the town's supply and marketing cooperative.

Four kinds of local specialties – peaches, foods cooked with wine, grapes and raw noodles – were on sale during the livestreaming session.

Several livestreamers were invited to host the event and Wu Weiliang, an inheritor of Wu songs, a national-level intangible cultural heritage, gave a performance to attract viewers.

The four-hour livestreaming session was viewed by 20,700 people, with 263 of them placing orders worth over 50,000 yuan ($7,392.89). A number of private companies in the district, including Jiuzhongjiu Robot Technology Co and Jiangsu Kemaite Technology Development Co, also put in orders to help farmers get more sales.

Binhu has in recent years been exploring different ways to increase farmers' incomes through e-commerce. For example, the district's commerce bureau has built a platform to connect farmers with markets. Xiadu village, known for its high-quality peaches, has also formed a team comprising Party members, local companies and farmers to train e-commerce talents.
