Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu has built 27 intelligent public toilets and plans to add or renovate 40 more this year.
The intelligent toilet, which uses internet of things technology, can monitor power and water consumption and determine if a cubicle is occupied.
The intelligent system can automatically alert the relevant parties after detecting malfunctions or when someone passes out in the toilet. People facing an emergency can also push the call button to request for help.
The toilet is more cost efficient than regular ones as it uses a robot to wash and dry the floor instead of human labor.
The faucets at the toilet can adjust the water temperature depending on the season and are capable of reducing water usage by 70 percent compared to traditional sinks.
Facilities such as microwave ovens, water dispensers and insulated food containers will also be made available in the toilet in the future.
