Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province held an activity on March 12 to celebrate the 44th China Tree-Planting Day, which is part of the district's efforts to help the nation achieve its carbon goals.
During the event, a group of volunteers, including many children, planted rows of plum trees at the crossing of Qianrong Road and Meicha No 3 Road.
A significant number of people from communities and schools in Binhu, such as the Mashan Mountain National Tourist Resort and Jiangsu Taihu High School, also participated in tree-planting activates that same day. Residents of Daoxiang community were able to exchange 10 plastic bottles or other recyclables for a pot plant.
Since 2015, more than 900,000 trees have been planted in Binhu through volunteer efforts. Forests cover 36.9 percent of the district's land surface and there are 2.73 million square meters of green space in its urban areas. The per capita area of public parks and gardens is 20.2 square meters.
