Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province plans to spend 1.57 billion yuan ($247.5 million) this year to improve the water environment in the Taihu Lake area.

According to the plan, 200 million yuan in investment will be used to carry out beautification projects on 58 rivers and lakes, while 422 million yuan will be used to control blue-green algae in Taihu Lake.

With 108 kilometers of coastline along Taihu Lake, accounting for 90 percent of Wuxi's total, Binhu has been making efforts to deal with water pollution and beautify views around its rivers and lakes.

Currently, 93 percent of the district's waterways are rated Class I to III in terms of water quality, up 38 percentage points over 2021. In addition, construction of the West Taihu Lake Wetland Park was completed at the end of last year, adding another sightseeing destination to Binhu.
