The Shanshuicheng sub-district in Binhu, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, and the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Soochow University launched a future information technology research center in Binhu district at a signing ceremony held on Dec 28.

According to local media outlets, the research center focuses on the research and development of new-generation technologies such as telecommunications, cloud computing, internet of things, big data, information security, and artificial intelligence.

Over the next three years, the center plans to apply for more than nine intellectual property rights, hold more than six industry events, and attract more than six projects that engage postgraduate or doctoral talent and can generate a combined 100 million yuan ($15.71 million) in output. It also aims to build a project incubator at the provincial level or higher during this period.

That same day, Wuxi Jiqing Photoelectric Technology Co signed a cooperation agreement with the sub-district to initiate a laser display R&D headquarters project, which is the first project to be established at the research center and has received more than 1 billion yuan in investment.
