Wuxi's Binhu district recently launched a nighttime shopping festival in an effort to boost the local nighttime economy.

A variety of nighttime activities - such as night markets, creative and cultural product fairs, float parades, light and firework shows - to be held at shopping, tourism and cultural venues, are expected to draw large crowds to Binhu this summer.

At the launch ceremony, six recommended nighttime destinations in Binhu were unveiled, including Nianhua Bay Zen Town, Sunac Resort, Hubin Road Commercial Street, Xinan Mansions Commercial Street, Taihu Star Tourist Park and Huallywood Beer Valley.

Last year, the State Council published opinions to develop the nighttime economy by optimizing food, shopping, and performance services at cultural and tourism venues, pointing to a new direction in terms of stimulating sales, said Chang Lin, head of culture, sports and tourism bureau of Binhu, adding that Binhu is set to further improve the environment for nighttime businesses.
