Baotou's year of remarkable agriculture and animal husbandry growth

Updated: 2025-01-13

In 2024, Baotou achieved significant milestones in agriculture and animal husbandry, driving rural vitalization through stable production, industrial upgrades, and increased farmer incomes.

The city actively advanced the construction of high-standard farmland, with 108,600 mu (7,240 hectares) under development. In Tumd Right Banner, modern irrigation systems crisscross neatly leveled fields, boosting grain yields by 10 percent while reducing water and fertilizer use. By the end of the year, Baotou had completed 2.38 million mu of high-standard farmland, 84.9 percent of the planned area, ensuring greater food security.

Facility agriculture flourished, with the Hualu Agricultural Seedling Center producing 120 million seedlings that support 45,000 mu of vegetable farming and engage 800 households in production. Modern techniques like drip irrigation and green pest control enhanced productivity and enriched the local "vegetable basket".

Animal husbandry also thrived, with new breeding centers for sheep and Mongolian horses achieving breakthroughs. Baotou emerged as a hub for egg and pig production, further solidifying its leading position in the region.

In the first three quarters of 2024, permanent residents' per capita disposable income in rural and pastoral areas reached 18,788 yuan ($2,563), higher than the 2,048 yuan average in China and the 4,035 yuan average in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
