Jiuyuan district's specialty agriculture empowers rural development

Updated: 2024-10-10

In recent years, Jiuyuan district in Baotou city has actively promoted the growth of specialty agriculture by introducing new crop varieties, techniques, and models tailored to local conditions.

This initiative focuses on developing high-quality, efficient, experience-based agriculture to boost farmers' incomes and drive rural vitalization through scaling and branding.

In Dabusu village, rows of vibrant chili peppers thrive under the sun. Jiusheng Group leased over 6,000 mu (400 hectares) of land this year to grow numerous chili varieties. Villagers signed chili supply contracts with companies expected to generate up to nearly 60 million yuan ($8.5 million), tripling previous corn revenue.

After nearly a decade of research, Yuran Agricultural Cooperative has farmed Pacific white shrimp on saline land by the Yellow River. The cooperative mastered the process of acclimating shrimp in desalinated environments, achieving a 90 percent survival rate. Plans are underway to expand production and involve neighboring farmers, further boosting the local economy.

Tianyou Health Eco-Park has transformed barren land into a thriving aquaculture hub. With over 20 freshwater species, including Yellow River carp and crabs, the park uses a sustainable, closed-loop system for water reuse. The project aims to establish a tourist destination while advancing local aquatic industry standards.

Jiuyuan district is turning ecological challenges into opportunities through innovative agricultural methods and sustainable development, promoting economic growth and rural revitalization.
