The first domestic polyglycolic acid (PGA) production line, which will be capable of producing 10,000 tons of PGA annually, is currently under construction in Jiuyuan Industrial Park in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to an Aug 30 Baotou Daily report.

Nine buildings, including a catalyst workshop, analytical laboratory, and integrated warehouse heating and cooling room, have already been completed, and 90 percent of all buildings have been completed. Some equipment pipelines have also been installed.

The project is completely funded by Inner Mongolia Pujing Polymer Material Technology Co, which will invest around 550 million yuan ($77 million) into the project.

The company plans to invest 140 million yuan this year, mainly to build a 10,000-ton/year PGA production line, a product research and development center, a warehouse control room, and other supporting facilities.

The production line is expected to generate 800 million yuan in operating income and pay 70 million yuan in taxes.
