A press conference themed on “selecting superior specialties for the world” was held in Beijing on Nov 18.

North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been a traditional big region for agriculture and animal husbandry. Blessed with a unique geographical location and superior natural resources, Inner Mongolia has more than 1,800 agricultural and livestock products authorized with Protected Designation of Origin and green and organic certifications.

The conference demonstrated not only Inner Mongolia's resources advantages in cultivating high-quality agricultural products, but also its innovative brand-building efforts to promote the products to the country and the world by introducing a new evaluation system. The first group of nine local companies has been authorized to display the "Meng" (a trademark that stands for Inner Mongolia) certificate.

The work of the Meng certificate was initiated and launched last year. The people’s government of the autonomous region filed a request to the State Administration for Market Regulation to develop a local featured brand for its advantageous and characteristic industries and products, which was quickly approved.

Through a year’s efforts the Meng brand-building project has established five systems for standards, institutions, relevant industries, quality management, and popularization with a view to selecting high-end products with international certification and building a regional brand with international competitiveness.

As an important part of Inner Mongolia's brand building efforts, the Meng certificate will play a key role in controlling risks and ensuring quality in the future, and help Inner Mongolia take the green-oriented high-quality development road.

The conference was hosted by the Market Supervision Administration of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Guests attending the event included heads of relevant departments of the State Administration for Market Supervision, government officials from departments of the autonomous region, directors of related enterprises, and news media.
