Renowned artist visits IMNU

Wu Weishan, an internationally renowned sculptor and member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was invited to give an academic report at Inner Mongolia Normal University, or the IMNU, on Dec29. 

Bu Xiaolin, chairwoman of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and various government officials attended the event. 

Wu Weishan gave an in-depth explanation of sculpture and humanities from the aspect of sculpture culture communication. He expounded the value orientation of modern Chinese sculpture and the expression of traditional Chinese culture in sculpture creation. 

"Only when art is combined with the country and the people, can it show more vigorous vitality". 

Wu Wei-shan is the president of the Chinese Academy of Sculpture, and director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing University.

Since 1998, his sculpture and paintings have been exhibited in Britain, the USA, Canada, Holland, South Korea, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. He once won the Royal Pangolin Prize of Britain. 

Wu Wei-shan has created over 500 statues of historical and cultural figures at home and abroad over the past 30 years. He is a pioneer and advocate of the new style of "freehand sculpture", a technique which seeks to integrate the concept of traditional Chinese philosophy with aesthetics, carrying forward the spirit of Chinese culture through innovative art forms. 

The work "Confucius" is a renowned example of Wu’s depictions of notable Chinese figures. 

Before the lecture, Wu Weishan visited IMNU's International School of Design and Art accompanied by Huang Yali, party secretary of the Party committee, and Yun Guohong, president of IMNU.
