The International Symposium on the History of Indigenous Knowledge was hosted by the Inner Mongolia Normal University from Aug 18 to 22.

More than 70 academics from both Japan and China attended the symposium and thoroughly discussed the topic, in relation to the technological and industrial development in China and Japan.

Indigenous knowledge refers to the understanding, skills and philosophies developed by societies with long histories of interaction with their natural surroundings. The study of the history of indigenous knowledge reflects on the current trends in social development based on historical laws.

“From the perspective of indigenous knowledge studies, we can probe many sociological fields and gain insight into the economic and social development in China,” said Zhang Tao, vice president of the International Society of History of Indigenous Knowledge.
