Experts discuss governance in multi-ethnic societies

An annual meeting of the Chinese Society of World Ethno-National Studies (CSWES) was held at Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Nov 17.

The meeting was organized by CSWES, the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and IMNU, drawing experts and officials from regional government and ethnology research centers across the world.

With a focus on governance in multi-ethnic societies and the building of a community with a shared future, the event is expected to promote the research and exchange of ethnology findings worldwide and boost the academic development of IMNU.

Huang Yali, Party chief of IMNU expressed a warm welcome to attendees during her opening remarks, saying that ethnology is one of the strongest disciplines at the university.

In 2007, IMNU was approved as a major ethnology research base in Inner Mongolia. And it   established an ethnology doctoral research program in 2017.

According to Huang, IMNU will continue to push forward the development of ethnology and build it into a leading discipline for the region.

Yi Song, vice-president of Inner Mongolia Academy of Science said that he hoped the event would promote the in-depth study of governance in multi-ethnic societies across the world and serve as a think tank for the construction of a community with a shared future.

The building of a community of a shared future has moved toward to a new era, which requires more intellectual support from the country, said Fang Yong, executive vice-chairman of CSWES.
