2018-10-24

Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) drew 1-1 with Inner Mongolia University (IMU) during the first match of the Sports Lottery Cup derby held at Shengle campus of IMNU Oct 19.

Wu Gang, deputy director of Inner Mongolia Sports Bureau, as well as officials from Horinger county, IMNU and IMU attended the opening ceremony of the derby.

A derby refers to a sports competition, usually a football match between two rivals from the same town, city or region.

Yun Guohong, president of IMNU said that the university had formed a long-term relationship with IMNU in campus football.

“The derby game, established in 2016, creates a great opportunity to exchange football skills and enhance friendship between two universities,” Yun said.

He added that the game is expected to play a vital role in pushing forward the training of football players and the regional reform of campus football.

In recent years, IMNU has promoted the development of campus football.

It established a football alliance in 2015, aiming to link universities in eastern, central and western areas of Inner Mongolia in developing campus football.

IMNU also focuses on expanding cooperation with global universities through events such as the annual Silk Road International Collegiate Football Invitational Tournament.

With the support of the regional government, it is now working on the construction of Horinger Football College.

According to IMNU, it is also cooperating with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in  organizing the SCO Member States Collegiate Football Invitational Tournament.
