The 10th Reading Month commenced at Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) on April 23, which marks the 23rd World Book Day.

Zhang Haifeng, vice-president of IMNU attended the ceremony and expressed hopes that students at IMNU should develop positive reading habits to enrich their knowledge during his speech.

The reading campaign features a series of activities including photography and calligraphy competitions, as well as reading workshops.

As one of the annual culture events at IMNU, the campaign usually opens on World Book Day and lasts for a month.

It aims at creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages students and teachers to develop reading habits.

The library at IMNU has also taken great efforts to support the campaign and develop reading culture over the past year.

In 2017, it opened for 280 days with nearly 1.3 million visitors. Last year, the library introduced 62,355 Chinese books, 253 journals, 4,769 Mongolian books and 11 Mongolian newspapers last year.

It is also working to enrich its databases. To date, the library has 52 Chinese language databases and 21 foreign language databases, making research much easier than traditional print reference collection.

“We will continue to improve the service of providing bibliographical information, and promote reading on campus,” said the head of the library at IMNU.
