College of Sociology and Folklore

2017-09-20

The College of Scociology and Folklore was established in 2006 to replace the Sociology and Folklore Department set up in April 2003.

It has four sub-disciplines granting master's degrees -- Sociology, Folklore, Anthropology, and Social Work -- and a Religious Studies major.

Folklore and Sociology are the key disciplines in the region and the university, respectively.

The college is comprised of the Department of sociology, the Department of Folklore and Anthropology, and the Department of Social Work.

It also houses the Mongolian Folklore and Nomadic Culture Institute, the Anthropology Research Center, the Institute of Traditional and Folk Culture of Northern Ethnic Groups, the Institute of Religious Studies, and the Research Center of Ethnic Development and Social Survey.

Moreover, it has a data and image processing lab, a library, and a well-equipped social work lab to carry out case work, group work, telephone interviews and computer-aided investigation.

The college's faculty has a balanced distribution of titles, degrees and ages. They are regarded explorers, innovators and great friends.

Several professors at the school have launched research projects at provincial and national levels, winning State awards.

The school is also a council member of the Association of Chinese Ethnology and the Chinese Sociological Association.
