On Nov 28, the 21st China International Agricultural Trade Fair, or CATF, opened in Guangzhou – capital of South China's Guangdong province – with Hohhot city showcasing its finest agricultural and livestock products.
Represented by its bureau of agriculture and animal husbandry, the offerings of the capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region included green organic goods, specialty foods, dairy products and the renowned Qingcheng Shaomai, a hallmark of Chinese cuisine.
The Inner Mongolia pavilion focused on five distinct areas – grain, meat, dairy, wool and specialty products.
In the Dairy Powerhouse section, Hohhot's reputation as the "Dairy Capital of China" took center stage.
Leading brands such as Yili and Mengniu presented a wide array of products, from liquid milk and yogurt to ice cream and powdered milk – emphasizing health-focused innovations like organic, low-sugar and high-protein options.
At the tasting event, Qingcheng Shaomai was clearly a star attraction.
Crowds gathered round to savor this iconic lamb-filled delicacy, with Guangzhou locals praising its authentic taste and tender texture.
The dish, celebrated as a symbol of Hohhot's culinary heritage, has gained national recognition as a Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage item.
Hohhot's participation in the fair is said to highlight its agricultural excellence and cultural charm, connecting its unique products to wider markets and audiences.
