Hohhot city's industrial economy performs robustly in H1

The industrial economy of Hohhot – capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – put in a strong performance in the first half of 2024, with significant contributions from various key sectors.

According to the municipal bureau of statistics, the city's above-scale industrial added value increased by 9.5 percent year-on-year, outpacing the regional and national growth rates by 2 and 3.5 percentage points, respectively.

In particular, the mining, manufacturing and the utilities sectors posted robust performances. Mining's added value rose by 20.5 percent during the period, manufacturing by 5.4 percent and utilities by 23.4 percent. Manufacturing and utilities were the main drivers, contributing 99.2 percent to overall industrial growth.

Nearly 70 percent of Hohhot's industries recorded positive growth, with food manufacturing up by 13 percent, petroleum and coal processing higher by 15.7 percent, power generation and supply increasing by 19.6 percent and gas production and supplies surging by 31 percent.

Indeed, these four industries alone contributed 116.7 percent to the city's overall industrial growth.

Meanwhile, major industrial products experienced impressive growth. The key players included dairy products which were up 11.5 percent, monocrystalline silicon which rose 23.7 percent and cigarettes which hiked 23.9 percent. Other key products included MSG, up 26.3 percent and refined methanol, soaring a whopping 1,511 percent.

Additionally, prices for monitored products such as monocrystalline silicon, methanol and caustic soda saw increases of 3 percent, 4.3 percent and 5.9 percent respectively – reinforcing the stability of the industrial economy.
