Hohhot's records steady progress in Q1 economic growth

Hohhot's economy has shown a steady and improving trend in the first quarter of 2024. From January to February, the city's economy saw a stable start, and in March, the momentum continued to consolidate and improve, leading to overall enhancement in economic quality.

The city's GDP reached 92 billion yuan ($12.7 billion) in the first quarter, with a 6.4-percent year-on-year growth at constant prices. Industry breakdowns show positive growth across the board: the added value of its primary industry reached 1.8 billion yuan, a 6.1-percent increase; the added value of its secondary industry reached 27.1 billion yuan, a 10-percent increase; and the added value of its tertiary industry reached 63.1 billion yuan, a 5-percent increase.

The city's Agricultural production has maintained a stable growth. The total output value of its agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors has reached 3.43 billion yuan, up 6 percent year-on-year. Key economic indicators in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, and services have all seen comprehensive improvements, growing by 9.7 percent, 9.7 percent, 5.5 percent, 7.5 percent, and 5.5 percent, respectively. Additionally, the construction of high-standard farmland projects has commenced.

The city's industrial sector has seen a stable rebound, with the value-added of industries above designated size increasing by 12.6 percent in the first quarter, ranking fourth in the region and outperforming the autonomous region's growth rate by 5.5 percent.

Notably, sectors like food manufacturing, electricity production, petroleum and coal processing, and gas production and supply also saw major growth, contributing significantly to the city's overall industrial growth.
