For years, Liu Junying and her family have been known for their expertise in making fried dough twists, a traditional delicacy in Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
In 2006, Liu and her husband opened a shop and established a company dedicated to processing and selling these fried dough twists. During the Chinese New Year and other festive occasions, these golden, crispy treats have become a beloved traditional food for both local and tourists, with demand often exceeding supply.
"In 2018, we were recognized as an intangible cultural heritage at the autonomous region level, all thanks to our craftsmanship going beyond the local area," Liu mentioned.
"In addition, we use only the finest raw materials for our fried dough twists. In recent years, we have even introduced a new product, the milk and honey twist, made with pure milk and flour without adding a drop of water. As modern consumers pay more attention to what they eat, we also need to keep up with the times. After all, what goes into one's stomach should never be taken lightly," stated Liu.
