Hohhot city, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recorded an upgrade and enhancement of its scientific and technological innovation, with 5 billion yuan spent in research and experimental development in 2021, according to a report in the Hohhot Daily.

Throughout the year, two Jiebang Guashuai projects, a rewards system for sci-tech projects, and 22 major scientific and technological projects were implemented in the city.

The proportion of strategic emerging industries engaged in industrial output increased from 18.9 percent in the previous year to 28.1 percent.

In addition, plans to develop the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center in Hohhot were approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

During the course of the whole year, one academician workstation, 53 research and development institutions and 27 national high-tech enterprises were added.

The Jinshan Development Zone in Hohhot reportedly came in at 123rd in the comprehensive ranking of high-tech zones in China in 2020, 10 places higher than it achieved in 2019.

Furthermore, Hohhot was successfully selected as one of the top 100 cities for technological innovation.

The city plans to create a world-class development complex for the dairy industry and to promote the overall upgrading of the sector.

As the project's mainstay, the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center will seek to attract domestic and foreign dairy innovation resources. It will strive to meet national strategic needs as well as address industrial issues, with the goal of building a globally influential dairy technology innovation hub.

The city is also set to grow into a premier regional science and technology innovation center. It will push to implement major scientific and technological breakthroughs and develop a multi-level personnel recruitment and training system.
