Hohhot reports sound economic performance in H1

Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recorded sound economic performance in the first half of 2021 with the regional gross domestic product (GDP) showing a year-on-year growth of 10.2 percent, according to local media reports.

The regional GDP and growth rate both ranked third in the autonomous region.

During the same period, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.5 percent year on year, ranking fifth in the autonomous region. Fixed asset investments increased by 45.6 percent year on year, ranking third in the autonomous region.

A total of 339 major projects at the autonomous region level (projects with government investment of more than 50 million yuan ($7.7 million) and enterprise investment of more than 100 million yuan) have all started construction.

The city's modern service industry has been upgraded, and modern service industries such as cultural tourism, finance, and e-commerce have maintained a good development trend.

Large-scale cultural tourism events were successfully held, including a tourism development cooperation summit involving wide participation of provinces and cities in North China. During the six-month period, Hohhot hosted 8.15 million visitors, an increase of 30.1 percent, and the tourism revenue totaled 11.94 billion yuan, an increase of 20.8 percent.

Hohhot-based Youran Dairy, one of China's largest suppliers of raw milk, was successfully listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange on June 18.

In addition, the city's e-commerce transaction volume increased by 15.7 percent year on year.

In the first half of the current year, the registered urban unemployment rate was 4.34 percent, and 25,300 people have found employment.
