Agricultural product sales help poverty alleviation in Wuchuan, Hohhot
Wuchuan county in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has made progress in its poverty alleviation work, with its agricultural products seeing sales growth in Beijing, according to Inner Mongolia Daily.
Since Mentougou district in Beijing and Wuchuan county confirmed that they were forming a partnership aimed at tackling poverty alleviation, nearly 70 Beijing-Mongolia poverty alleviation cooperation projects have been successfully implemented, greatly promoting the industrial development of Wuchuan county.
In the past, Yixingyuan village was rated as a poor village at the autonomous region level.
From 2019 to 2020, the village committee successively received 400,000 yuan ($62,200) of funding for a Beijing-Mongolia Poverty Alleviation project.
With the help of Beijing Jingmen Commercial Investment Development Co, a snow chrysanthemum processing workshop was built in the village covering an area of some 200 square meters, and drying, sorting, and filling equipment and storage facilities were purchased.
In 2019, the village began to plant a large number of snow chrysanthemums using its geographical advantages. That year it drove 24 poor households to increase their incomes.
In 2020, the village's snow chrysanthemum planting area was further expanded, and raw materials were purchased from surrounding rural areas to drive farmers' incomes through procurement.
Through in-depth brand promotion, social-media promotion, product exhibitions and sales activities, the sales volume of agricultural products in Wuchuan county has reached 16.01 million yuan.
