Hohhot, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, will focus on improving the quality of the city and its environment in areas including roads, architectural appearance, greenery, back streets and alleyways, according to local media reports.

Hohhot divides its urban roads into categories in terms of their levels of environmental condition and structural upgrades. This determines the degree of improvement required by different venues and their routes, using a three-tier system.

All roads must be designed and constructed in strict accordance with relevant national and local standards, such as Technical Standards of Highway Engineering.

Efforts will also be made to improve the exterior environment of buildings in the city, as well as greenery along the streets. It will increase shade-tolerant plant varieties and increase roadside greenery.

Functional facilities will be further improved in Hohhot. Supervision will be conducted on urban roads and outdoor facilities in public environments, including information facilities and sanitary facilities.

Urban furniture should be arranged in road isolation belts and green belts, so that it can be easily exposed to sunlight and crowds can be unimpeded. Also, it should be function- and people-oriented, and provide convenience for different groups of people, including children and the disabled.

In addition to strengthening the daily cleaning of the back streets and alleys in the city, Hohhot will continue to increase the comprehensive renovation of these areas, formulate a renovation work plan, and issue implementation opinions for their comprehensive renovation.
