The 9th China Hohhot Ethnic Cultural Tourism Activities and the 20th Zhaojun Culture Festival are scheduled to be held from July to September, announced the Hohhot municipal government at a press conference held on June 5.
The opening ceremony of the events will be held at Hohhot Poly Theatre on July 12.
Officials announced that there will be 33 activities during the event, including cultural performances, film screenings, forums, and symposiums.
Focused on promoting the grassland culture and Zhaojun culture, the events are also part of celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China.
The Zhaojun Culture Festival, first launched in 1999, has evolved into a special feature of Hohhot, attracting numerous tourists, scholars and businesspeople from both home and abroad, which not only assists in the economic development of the city, but also increases its popularity.
This year, the Zhaojun Culture Festival will add archery competitions, horse racing, marathons, music concerts and extreme sports into the event.
The 9th China Hohhot Ethnic Cultural Tourism Activities, first held in 2011, will include opera exhibitions, photography shows, reading events and two other activities.
The Hohhot Municipal Bureau of Culture, Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television also promoted themed tourism routes during the conference.
“We have launched multiple new tourism routes for the upcoming events in a bid to attract more tourists to Hohhot,” said Li Shali, head of local culture, press, publication, radio, film and television authority.
