Major industries in Hohhot produce $4.18b in Q1
Six major industries in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region achieved a total output value of 28.16 billion yuan ($4.18 billion) from January to March this year, accounting for 82.5 percent of the city's total output.
The city's major industries include food processing, electric power, petrochemicals, biomedicine, new materials, and digital information.
The total output value of the food processing industry reached 5.28 billion yuan during the first three months, down 6.7 percent year-on-year.
The food processing industry in Hohhot, which centers around the dairy industry, has produced many leading enterprises, such as Yili and Mengniu, that make up the most productive dairy chain in China. The output value of the city's dairy sector was 4.22 billion yuan.
In the electric power industry, Datang Power Generation saw a slowdown in growth of total generated electric power.
From January to March, the electric power industry achieved an output value of 10.28 billion yuan, up 3.4 percent year-on-year.
The petrochemical industry in Hohhot is highly concentrated with a number of competitive advantages and some distinct features. Due to market fluctuations in petrochemical products in Hohhot, the industry generated 6.58 billion yuan in output, down 4.7 percent year on year.
This year, the biomedicine industry has improved clean technology and slowed production. Over the past three months, its total output reached 2.92 billion yuan.
The new materials sector saw 2.79 billion yuan in output during the first quarter, an increase of 5.1 percent over the previous year.
The digital information sector witnessed strong growth in Q1, generating 310 million yuan in output, up 69.9 percent year-on-year.
