Thousands of visitors from across the city gathered at Togtoh county on the day to enjoy the Kaihe fish, a delicacy unavailable in the winter months, during the Second Kaihe Fish Festival.
Every year, when the Yellow River thaws in March, local fishermen are able to catch Kaihe fish.
As a traditional festival celebrating the local food, cooks at nearby hotels were invited to prepare dishes such as traditional fish stew, steamed fish, and fried fish for visitors.
Lu Yuzhong, vice-governor of the county, said that the festival last year entertained more than 50,000 visitors a day.
Lu said that the festival this year diversified its activities by offering more than 60 events including cooking contests, cultural performances, fireworks and displays of agricultural products, with an aim of attracting more tourists to the Yellow River.
The fish festival concluded on March 18.
