China's dairy giant Yili Group was recognized as a "demonstration base" for its efforts to educate the public about nutrition during a meeting held in Beijing on Aug 29.

Meizhou city in Guangdong province, Laiyang city in Shandong province and Shaanxi Normal University were also included on the list of demonstration bases released by the State Food and Nutrition Consultant Committee.

The promotion of the demonstration bases is a result of initiatives contained in the national nutrition plan published in 2017.

The thirteen-year plan is intended to set nutrition standards and promote overall public health.

Sun Junmao, a director at the State Food and Nutrition Consultant Committee said that the soybean and dairy sectors are major focuses of the national nutrition plan and Yili, as a leading player in the dairy sector, is expected to make a considerable contribution to the implementation of the plan.

Over the past several years, Yili has continued to promote good nutrition and healthy living to members of the public.

Yili opened its factories to visitors wanting to learn more about the company's products, while handing out pamphlets on nutritional information and health, according to Meng Liping, a nutrition scientist working for the company.

In addition, it has also organized a series of events to promote healthy diets, with the aim of getting as many people as possible across the country to support the company's initiatives, Meng added.

During the event, many attendees expressed their support for the work of the dairy giant, with some demanding a greater sense of corporate responsibility from other national companies.
