Dozens of volunteers visited domestic dairy giant Yili Group in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on June 8, to learn about green initiatives implemented in the company's manufacturing and supply process.

The activity was organized by Hohhot environmental protection bureau, Hohhot intermediate people's court and Yili Group, as part of events to mark World Environmental Day.

Increasingly, public opinion has come round to the idea that low-carbon production is essential for sustainable economic development, with a country’s environment an invaluable asset that needs protecting. 

Adhering to China’s strategy of sustainable development, Yili plays a leading role in green production in the national dairy industry with a focus on minimizing waste, said Li Jiankun, assistant to Yili’s president.

He noted that the firm’s carbon emissions decreased 880,000 tons between 2010 and 2017 and that its Jinchuan sewage treatment plant is capable of treating 10,000 tons of sewage per day. 

Last year, Yili invested 180 million yuan ($28 million) in eco-friendly construction, realizing green production in both manufacturing and its supply chain, while still ensuring quality products.
