On Oct 12, Hainan University (HNU) and Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) in Russia held a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, which marked the formal establishment of a friendly and cooperative relationship between HNU and INRTU.

Established in 1930, INRTU is a national key research university in Russia. The university currently has 17,500 students, of which 1,500 are foreign students and 320 are Chinese.

The President of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov said that the university has been focusing on international scientific research cooperation and student exchanges.

Korniakov introduced the university's Baikal Institute of BRICS, which is a pilot school for educational reform established by the Russian Federation's Ministry of Education. It focuses on sustainable development fields including disciplines such as chemical energy, environmental ecology and the circular economy, which aligns with the direction of HNU's discipline construction and the needs of Hainan's economic and social development.

Luo Qingming, president of HNU, hopes that the two universities will take this opportunity to cultivate more compound talents with international perspectives for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the sustainable development of China and Russia.
