On Sept 9, Hainan University (HNU) held the opening ceremony for the 2021 freshmen at its Haidian campus, Danzhou campus and Chengxi Basic Teaching Department. 

There were 8,162 undergraduate students, 3,037 master students and 296 doctoral students from all over the country as well as 127 international students from 39 countries and regions attending the opening ceremony through a combination of online and on-site methods.

Luo Qingming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of HNU, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He shared over 60 years of HNU's history and the hard work from past generations of HNU's staff with students, and encouraged students to study hard to achieve their dreams.

Luo introduced HNU's comprehensive reform measures in recent years such as the reform of the complete credit system, the establishment of the academy system, and the establishment of a collaborative innovation center.

The president encouraged students to devote themselves to the great cause of Hainan Free Trade Port construction. He hopes that everyone can stay in Hainan after their graduation, and grow together with the Hainan FTP.
